Disability

Disability insurance provides financial protection if you’re unable to work due to illness or injury. It replaces a portion of your income, helping you manage everyday expenses and maintain stability while you recover. Short Term Disability (STD) typically covers temporary conditions, while Long Term Disability (LTD) offers extended support for more serious or long-lasting health issues.

EnerSys Short Term Disability and leave of absence claims are administered by Telus Health. Long Term Disability is provided through Prudential.

For a comprehensive list of exclusions, limitations, applicable benefit offsets, and duration of benefits for disability plans, please refer to the Certificate of Insurance found on the Benefit Solver website. The Certificate also provides all requirements necessary to be eligible for coverage and benefits.

Short Term Disability (STD)

Short Term Disability Insurance pays a percentage of your salary (or hourly wage) if you become temporarily disabled due to your own sickness or injury. On-the-job injuries are excluded, as they are covered by Worker’s Compensation Insurance.

  • You are eligible to receive STD benefits after you have satisfied the Qualifying Period of XX days.
  • Replaces up to XX% of your eligible income, up to a maximum of $XX per week.
  • Benefits are paid for a maximum of 26 weeks, including the Qualifying Period.

Benefits are paid for each regularly scheduled workday that you are Totally Disabled, and are payable after the Qualifying Period has been satisfied and all other plan provisions are met. Payments coincide with your usual pay cycle — semi-monthly or bi-weekly.

STD benefits may run concurrently with FMLA. You may be required to use available vacation time or Paid Time Off to satisfy the Qualifying Period prior to receiving benefits. To receive STD benefits, the injury or illness must be on or after the effective date of coverage, all eligibility requirements must be met, and claims must be initiated and approved by Telus Health.

Please refer to the Company FMLA and STD policies for further details.

Long Term Disability (LTD)

Long Term Disability Insurance can offer peace of mind and financial security if you find yourself unable to return to work for a period of at least 180 days due to a covered injury or illness.

  • Coverage is based on your annual base salary and provides 60% income replacement.
  • Maximum monthly distribution of $15,000.
  • Benefits continue until you recover or reach your Social Security Normal Retirement Age, whichever is sooner.

If this coverage is elected when you first become eligible to participate, it is guaranteed to be issued without medical inquiry — however the pre-existing conditions limitation will apply. If elected outside of initial eligibility, Evidence of Insurability may be required.

If elected, deductions for Long Term Disability Insurance are taken from your paycheck on a post-tax basis, which means any future distributions will also be post-tax.

If you are enrolled in Long Term Disability and are eligible to file a claim, information will be mailed to your home address detailing your rights and responsibilities under the plan. For Long Term Disability inquiries, contact Prudential at 800-842-1718.
